My Students

I enjoy showing students that learning can be fun and entertaining. My students, generally, are enthusiastic about learning but need a fun "hook" to remain engaged in learning. Playing games to "learn" can be used to hook students into a new unit or to summarize content at the end of a unit. But playing a game to preview or review content is more mentally stimulating for high school aged students, when many other classrooms may be set up as more 'serious' and not game centered. My students have, in the past, continually ask to play competition-style games and crave the pitted competition among their peers.

My Project

The type of games to be played with a wireless buzzer system would be: Jeopardy, Trivia, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, etc. These games can be teacher-created or use pre-made templates to use mainly as review to assess students needs prior to a unit assessment. Students could also have an opportunity to create their own version or a new buzzer style game!

The healthy competition between students or groups of students can facilitate learning or recollection that standard teacher directed instruction cannot, and it can promote new and different relationships between students not previously explored.

Finally, interclass competitions can occur!
