My Project
Our school is a small K-12 school tucked in the hills of East Tennessee. For the first time in our history, we have our own full-time band director. My students are eager, creative, and resilient. Many come from families where money is limited, but their dreams are big. They are hungry for the chance to learn, perform, and express themselves through music.
Our band is growing quickly, but we face a major roadblock: we don’t have a single playable flute in our entire program.
Right now, my flute students sit silently in rehearsals, watching their friends play while they wait for the chance to participate. That breaks my heart.
This project will provide our first working flute along with a Join the Band Kit to help kid’s find their fit for instruments. Together, these resources will give my students a fair and equal chance to learn, play, and fall in love with music.
By adding a flute and Join the Band Kit to our band room, I can place real instruments in students’ hands immediately, instead of asking them to sit and watch., build a lasting inventory of quality instruments that will serve not just today’s kids, but generations to come, and create equity in my classroom, where every child has the same opportunity to participate regardless of what their family can afford.
Music education changes lives. It builds confidence, teamwork, and discipline, and it gives children a voice that reaches far beyond the classroom. My students are already showing that their passion outweighs their circumstances.
