Butterflies and Other Fascinating Creatures Living Around Us

My students need to learn about their world and that would include insects and butterflies. By getting these supplies, especially the butterfly house and live caterpillars, they can learn about the life cycle of living things.

My Students

Come into my classroom any school day and you will find some very busy little people exploring their world. In my Preschool classroom everyone is safe and everything is at their level. You observe busy little people getting to know their world better. They even have a fenced in playground where they can climb, slide run and imagine.

Outside of the school campus, it is a different story.

The neighborhood that surrounds the school is an impoverished one. The homes are very old and have not weathered well through the years. Many of them have burnt down and what is left is a shell of a house. Some of the blocks by our school have homes that have been preserved well. Many of these homes have fences that surround the home. It is hard pressed to see children playing outside, even in the summer.

My Project

In the spring, my students love to be outside. A favorite activity is catching any kind of insect in our magnified bug boxes. Butterflies are the very hardest to catch but the most wanted. By getting this project funded, we will be able to share with the students the life cycle of a butterfly using the butterfly kit.

It is my goal to give my students a chance to experience first hand what happens in the life cycle of a butterfly.

The love the story "The Hungry Caterpillar" This project will give them a chance to see the life process of caterpillar, cocoon and then the emergent of the beautiful butterfly.
