My students need art supplies like paint so that they can create. They need gross motor items like a large exercise ball and a balance beam to regulate their bodies.

My Students

My students are little balls of energy eager to learn what my staff and I have to offer.

They are between 3 and 5 years of age and all have an autism diagnosis, or exhibit autistic like behaviors. Many of them exhibit social deficits and need encouragement and intervention to learn how to interact with world around them. I believe that all are capable of learning these things with the love and support that my staff and I offer daily. My school is a wonderful collaborative environment that is nestled in a very diverse city! The entire school that I am a part of serves preschool aged children with a wide range of disabilities. We work together to plan awesome units for our students. Our school is growing rapidly. We have officially outgrown our campus and my class is off campus at a nearby school. It's hard to be away from the main campus, but my little hallway is a lot of fun!

My Project

My students will greatly enjoy all of these materials. Students will create beautiful master pieces with the art supplies. They will also enjoy the gross motor items such as the balance beam and exercise balls. Essential oils will help to calm my students by being added to things like play dough. These items specifically can provide much needed sensory input and students will develop their skills of waiting and turn taking when these are used. There are also many book included in my request. These are great books that align with the themes I will be teaching. They will give my students an opportunity to explore literacy more deeply.

I am a second year teacher but this is my first year running my own class with all my own materials.

I have essentially had to start from scratch and a few donated items. My students need more materials to help them to reach their fullest potential and to discover where their interests lay. Donations made to my room will ultimately help to improve their quality of life and more specifically their fine motor, gross motor, social, and play skills.
