My Project

Imagine going to music class and learning, hearing, and performing music from a wide variety of musicians. What if you wanted to learn more about those artists?

I want to provide a nonfiction music room library of accessible musician biographies for students to read during independent learning times.

Our intermediate school serves grades 5 and 6 students. We have about 300 kids in our school, and all of them have general music classes! I am excited to be able to teach these students using a variety of techniques and curricula. In a typical year, we study guitar, ukulele, keyboards, drums, and music literacy. This past year, I have worked hard to foster an environment of independent musicianship and learning, and I know that adding a music room library will be a welcomed addition to that time.

My students need a selection of nonfiction books, including biographies, to create our music room library. They will become a staple part of our independent learning times, and be included as a center activity during some lessons. The "Who Was" series is accessible to our age group, and I was even able to find several in spanish! I know my students will love being able to learn more about performers and composers that we often are unable to learn about in detail during our lessons.
