This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have a classroom of 24 energetic second graders, most of whom are academically and phonetically behind. Studies have shown that phonics books are the best way for students to learn how to read. In order to help my students to be successful readers they need engaging decodable readers to keep them engaged. The readers will be used during small group instruction and during their independent reading time.
Using decodable readers, I will be able to help my struggling readers learn to read without giving up, but instead introduce in them a sense of accomplishment.
These readers offer them an opportunity to practice building the foundations necessary to help them become productive readers in their educational years.
