In our classroom, we have students with many different learning needs. It is often a challenge to keep them engaged during instruction. Offering them something to hold and manipulate increases their time that they are able to attend to the activity.
Sensory materials allow a student to keep their hands busy while doing table work or one on one instruction.
This increases their ability to excell academically and also maintaining their educational goals when they normally might not. We often see behaviors and think that they cannot complete the activity. In reality, they need to have that sensory input to help them.
