My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I see my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they never fail to work hard to improve their academics.

Many of them receive free or reduced-price lunch, are given food bags for the weekend, and struggle academically.

That said, they are exceptionally hard workers and dedicated to improving their academic outcomes. I am extremely proud of them and excited for how our school year will go. I want to start this year with a plethora of resources to aid my students' learning.

My Project

My students will learn the importance of using their manners to request items from their peers, the significance of patience and turn taking, as well as basic engineering skills. Use of magnetic blocks will provide the opportunity for the kids to build 3D models. In addition, the snapcircuits allow students to hands-on build electrical circuits however they would like. The K'NEX help them with the basic idea of designing and modeling. This would also help improve their planning and designing capabilities.

This will enhance the environment not only in the classroom, but in the community because my students get a chance to be creative and learn in the fun the hands-on way.

Research has proven that board games enhance social skills.

Board games don't have to be educational. Students communicate with their groups and use fine motor skills while playing games like Jenna! The purpose of these games is to teach skills such as communicating verbally, sharing, taking turns, waiting, and enjoying interaction with others.
