Help me give my students an exciting introduction to women in STEM; as we read books and explore using engineering, architecture, and design centers, we will see hands on the importance of STEM in our world.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic and love to learn. They come from low-income households, and many have not had the opportunity to explore the world outside of their own community.
I teach a special day class for students with mild to moderate disabilities which makes it a challenge for them to to learn online.
Many depend on hands on materials and activities to learn new concepts.
My Project
Connecting literature and hands-on activities will help my students learn about the role of women in STEM. I chose books that feature female characters as engineers, scientists, designers, and creators. They will be able to extend their learning by having the chance to explore hands-on engineering, architecture, and building activities that we read about in the books.
I am planning on creating an at home lending library with different hands-on materials and books that students can bring home and explore with their families.
This project would give me enough kits so that every child could have their own to explore for a month before exchanging it for a new kit. Please help me bring STEM into my students' lives.
