Help me give my students a beginner's Flow beehive kit to introduce students to apiculture on our high school campus.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are natural-born scientists and explorers. They just don't know it yet! They are inquisitive, they want to learn, they're analytical, they crave new learning experiences, want to search for meaning and truth, share their own stories, and become agents of change to make the world a more verdant place. And it is my job to facilitate and give them access to the knowledge and the skills they need to get the answers and purpose they seek. We, like many public schools, struggle with purchasing new supplies, especially technology, and we must then rely on your generosity to fill in the financial and ultimately learning gaps that allow us to get the technology, experiences, and opportunities our students need to grow into passionate academics and global citizens.
My Project
We have always studied the concept of ecosystem services in our AP and IB Environmental Science and related it to food production, sustainability and ultimately insects- especially bees. For years we have used bees as the example to follow on how insects impact our world and especially food, through pollination and propagation of producers. For years, we have also attempted to get our hands dirty and start an apiculture club, something where interested students can come and learn about beekeeping and bees in general.
We have recently partnered with a local non-profit community garden and beekeepers' organization and we began an internship neighborhood student program for students interested in installing and maintaining beehives in our local neighborhood.
This dream project has the ability to come to life and become a reality because of you. The excitement this year that we generated when we brought in a mock hive and and an established hive from last year was palpable. The students have always read about beekeeping, colony collapse and other topics related to bees, though most still see bees, and insects in general as inferior biotic factors- which is not the case. When we looked at the anatomy of the bee, the colony organization, the biological roles and the ecological roles they play, my students gained a deeper understanding of insects in general. I hope through these projects to make this a year-round activity and something students can then transfer and use to make others appreciate insects and especially bees on our own campus, with our own Flow hive.
