My students are special and unique. We live on St. Lawrence Island, in Siberian Yupik communities. We live in a place where we survive primarily on subsistence, hunting/gathering from the land and sea. Because of the remoteness of this place, they do not have much prior knowledge built up about the outside world. It is very expensive to buy supplies at the stores here because everything has to be flown in. Sometimes our stores can go 2-3 weeks without supplies. Here are specifically how each supply will help our classroom:
Keurig and coffee: This will be available for use for the paraprofessionals.
In our culture, we sit around and drink coffee as a way of connecting and visiting. Clorox wipes: We will use these to regularly clean our classroom. Floor seats: We will use these to do reading groups on the floor. Flour: We will use these in baking and classroom activities. Baby wipes: These are always handy for blowing noses. Toilet paper and paper towel: These are always handy, and are the things that the stores run out of at times. Books: These will be used for social/emotional learning
