My Students

My classroom is full of 26 energetic, amazing, ready to learn second graders! Each and every student enters our classroom with a smile and an eagerness to learn new things. A day in our classroom involves hands on learning, lots of questioning and reading as much as we can about a variety of topics.

All 26 students in my classroom exhibit all 7 habits such as being proactive, beginning with the end in mind and thinking win-win on a daily basis.

They are all leaders that are excited to learn, ready to create with each other and truly care about others. The group of students I have this year truly want to learn more. They enjoy creating projects, especially on Kindle Fires and they absolutely love to read. My heart is full when I see my students reading, engaging in hands on learning experiences and discussing what they're learning with their classmates.

My Project

Learning to read is the main goal in second grade. My goal is to foster a genuine love for reading in all of my students. Our class loves to read new books, revisit books we've read and create projects about books we've read on Kindle Fires. During our Daily 5 reading time, my students love using technology such as iPads and computers to read favorite stories as well as listen to stories online. This is one of their favorite parts of the day. We're blessed to have an iPad in our classroom but I would love to a new Kindle Fire Kids Edition so that all students even my strugglers can strengthen their reading by listening and reading along to stories during our listen to reading station of Daily 5 reading time. All students will also be using the Kindle Fire to create projects using apps such as Pic Collage and Educreation.

Receiving the Kindle Fire Kid Edition will help our class reach our goal of becoming good readers that have a true love of reading.

We'll be able to work with partners to create projects about books we read. Our Daily 5 stations will be more productive because now when students rotate through the 5 stations all students at the listen to reading station will be able to have a Kindle Fire to listen or read along to stories. Each student will be able to read on their appropriate level
