This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Books can transport us into new places, give us eyes into lives similar to ours, and spark a love for learning that can carry us through our academic pursuits. My students are passionate about going to college and achieving their dreams, but they need books to help them develop the necessary skills!
My students are passionate, engaged, and curious.
They're constantly questioning the world around them and want to achieve amazing goals. However, they need help with reading and many of them don't have the resources to seek out books on their own. In addition, many of them are English Language Learners and/or have special needs. I feel that access to an engaging classroom library would help them pursue their interests and might ignite a love for reading that they didn't know they had.
My Project
The books that I have chosen cover topics that are interesting and relevant to my students. There is a mix of dystopian, science fiction, fantasy, memoir, nonfiction, fiction, and more to grab the interest of every single one of my students. Many of the characters also deal with struggles that could help and inspire my students to make positive choices in their lives. In addition, I also feel that having a library like this will give students a sense of ownership over the classroom, and will let them know that there is a community out there that believes in them and their dreams.
As a relatively new teacher at a brand new school, I am dedicated to providing my students with the best opportunities, but I need the resources to make my dreams and my students' dreams happen.
