it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Midwest winters are brutal! We get snow, wind, and below-zero temperatures for months. I teach in a neighborhood school which means that all of my students live in the immediate vicinity of our school. Because of this, there is no bus service to and from school. My students either get a ride or have to walk, many of them walk close to a mile to get to school. We are a high-poverty school so many of my students oftentimes go without incidentals because their parents can't afford them.
I want to keep all of my students warm this winter, so we are requesting warm winter hats and gloves so that they can all safely make their walk to and from school without having to worry about frozen ears and fingers!
We have some extra gloves and hats available to needy students, but they have to go to the office to ask for them. Most of my middle school students are too embarrassed to ask, so they just go without. Having a supply of gloves and hats in a box in our classroom would allow me to give them to needy students on the sly without embarrassing them.
