This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at a Middle School in the Soundview section of the Bronx. 1/3 of the student population lives in temporary housing. Some of my students are new arrivals to this country. Volleyball is a sport that both boys and girls can play together.
My students are currently playing with old, obsolete volleyball equipment that is in poor condition.
With Budget cuts, the school cannot afford to purchase new volleyball equipment. My goal is to use this equipment in PE classes to teach students the fundamentals of volleyball and then be able to practice.
What makes my students special is despite the poor equipment, they still continue to learn how to play volleyball.
