My Students
What do you do when you have students afraid to come to school because of how they are treated when they're there? What do you do when fights break out because of something derogatory someone put on Facebook? You change things by educating kids on bullying... how to recognize it and how to stop it.
I have a FABULOUS class of 25 fourth graders in rural Georgia.
We are a group of 50% boys, 50% girls. We are a mixture of all different races and nationalities. A large percentage of my students qualify for free/reduced lunch. They are an eclectic mix of students, but they blend well together.
My Project
I am requesting 2 Kindle Fires and 4 copies of "Bullying in Schools" to use in small groups to focus on bullying. There are specific apps designed for the Kindle Fire that help students role play different bullying scenarios. My hope is that as I work with the small groups in my room, that the knowledge they learn will be passed on throughout the school. The small groups can share the Kindle Fires and I can work with 4 students at a time with the books.
Students need to understand what bullying is, what it looks like, and how to stop it. I believe that the book through AKJ Books will help facilitate great discussions and the apps that I can download on the Kindle Fires will help us role play scenarios to combat bullying. Students can also access the Internet to find online resources to combat bullying.
Our project is important because it will help curb the growing trend of bullying in schools.
We want to do something to be proactive. We want to save our students from becoming another statistic. We will begin with a small group spreading the word, with hopes that soon the entire school will be on the bully-free bandwagon. Please help us as we strive to keep bullying out of our school.
