This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students face specific challenges with bullying because of cultural misunderstanding in our mixed immigrant neighborhood. Students and teachers have come together with an anti-bullying club and awareness day. Going to see the movie "Bully" will be an excellent extension of our work.
My students are Spanish, Chinese and Arabic speaking, low income students who attend a 6-8th grade middle school in NYC.
They are sweet kids who are trying to negotiate the challenges of adolescence in an urban area. As teachers, we are trying to support them as best we can, but could use your support for this important and cost-prohibitive event.
My Project
Through my research in the media and with filmmaker friends, I know how powerful this movie is going to be and I want my students to see it. Many of them understand the incredible harm bullying can cause but some still do not get it. I believe that this film is just the kind of media that my technologically driven students will respond to.
Bullying can cause physical and emotional harm and even lead to teen suicide.
By supporting this project, you will be helping to prevent all of that. Thank you in advance for your support.
