This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Bullies are all around us. My first graders need books written at their level to understand what and who bullies are. Books that use animals as characters are often the most powerful means of getting the message across.

My students are 24 fun-loving first graders.

At home, most of them speak their native language and then function in school in English. Our school is a Title I school in a big city. My students come from two-parent households, single parents households, extended family households, but they all come to school to learn. First grade is such a fun place to practice reading. My students love to be read to and talked with. As much as I like reading aloud to them, they also need time to practice their independent reading. While some students have begun reading on their own, others still need that extra help that an e-reader can give them.

My Project

Help me help my students by being able to identify bullying at school and in the neighborhood. These two books about bullying will be read aloud and be springboards to classroom discussions about this problem. The e-reader will be used by the students to listen to other stories about bullying. What fun it would be to have a Nook Color to use in the classroom. With a Nook, students can have an opportunity to use 21st century technology with an essential life skill, reading and learn how to prevent bullying from happening.

Help my students continue to become 21st century heroes and not bullies.

Books about bullying and an e-reader with a cover can empower these first graders with their anti bullying and reading skills.
