My school consists of students in an inner-city community. They strive to educate themselves and learn the tools necessary to become contributing members of a global society. Due to lack of exposure, they sometimes struggle to empathize with the struggles of different cultures.
As educators we struggle to get our students to see the world through the eyes of others.
Bully, the movie, is a deeply moving insight into how bullying affects not just the young people targeted but the entire family. We must change the culture of our schools so that every single kid feels safe every single day. By taking all the juniors and seniors in our school to see the film, we are sending a message that this is an issue important to all of us. After viewing the film, we will follow up on the topic and create specific strategies to stop bullying on our campus and in our community.
My Project
It is imperative that we address this issue so that every student, knows they CAN make a difference in creating a safe space for others. Unfortunately it's a quiet issue that does not always get the attention that it should. Having the opportunity to see this movie will have a tremendous impact on our school.
This is an important issue in our schools and society.
