My Students

Be a buddy, not a bully! This is one of the mottoes in our school!

The students that I will be working with are students that have been identified as not meeting grade level expectations.

They are students who are not performing at grade level and therefore need the extra support outside of the traditional classroom setting. I service children in kindergarten through fifth grade, many being English Language Learners. The children are excited to learn, yet there is a wide achievement gap between them and their peers. Their time with me is to help assist in closing that gap.

My Project

This year, I school is implementing a new behavior model called PBIS. This model focuses on teaching positive behavior and expectations that are expected in each area of the school. I also use this model to teach social skills as well as anti-bully curriculum. In order to reward the children for their exceptional behavior, I'd like to be able to provide them with a variety of board games, such as checkers, Mancala, and Scrabble Jr, to use during Game Day. Not only will this be a fun experience, but it will also be used as a valuable teaching tool. Games can teach so many skills--turn taking and cooperation to name a few. By incorporating Game Day into our monthly schedule, I will be able to teach the children, through socialization, the importance of good sportsmanship and teamwork.

Classic games such as tic-tac-toe, Scrabble Jr., and Mancala will be used as a way to reward children for their good behavior. The board games will also help to instill many anti-bullying behaviors such as turn taking, cooperation, teamwork and cooperation!
