Bulldog Breathe Room and Breathe Bins

Help me give my students a designated sensory room with calm lighting and flexible seating items such as the rocking saucer and sensory bins that will rotate through the school with items like the body sock and fidgets.

My Students

Through the use of Restorative Practices our schools mission is to meet all students on a social and emotional level as the needs have drastically changed over the last couple of years.

Our population encompasses a wide range of diverse needs including students with autisms, ADHD, low socioeconomic statues, homeless or student in transition, PTSD, ODD, depression and anxiety, child parent relationship problems or abandonment, foster care, nonverbal learning disability, selective mutism, in a pattern of survival and in a constant state of fight or flight.

We aim to create in inclusive environment for all of these students to allow them to feel apart of this schools as a community. Our school takes the word "community" very seriously and it is instilled into our students as well.

My Project

Due to covid pandemic and closure of schools, many have returned with trauma from this experience based off of their dysregulated home lives. unpredictability, loss of routines, disappointment. The unknown, unpredictable environments, lack of support from families who may have been working or disconnected from education.

We want to help our students feel that they are coming into a supported and safe environment which facilitates not only their learning but helps them reset their emotional button in a safe and respectful academic space.

Each student will be drawn differently to what the sensory room and objects have to offer as each student's brain works in different ways. We hope that in using these tools it can help them learn to self-regulate and de-escalate any trauma related outbursts without disrupting the learning environment.
