My Project
My first grade students are enthusiastic, curious, and eager to become strong readers. Many of them come from diverse backgrounds and face challenges that can make early literacy a struggle—limited access to books at home, language barriers, or economic hardship. Despite this, they come to school every day ready to learn, laugh, and grow.
They are at a crucial stage in their reading development.
They've learned their letters and sounds—now it's time to build fluency, comprehension, and most importantly, a love for reading.
I am requesting a set of early-reader chapter books to support my students as they transition from learning to read into reading to learn. These books will allow them to dive into longer stories with richer vocabulary, relatable characters, and exciting plots that will challenge and motivate them.
Books like Magic Tree House and Amelia Bedelia are perfect for developing fluency and comprehension. These titles provide the structure and repetition early readers need while keeping them engaged and excited.
With these books in our classroom, students will practice reading in small groups, with partners, and independently. They’ll use strategies like predicting, summarizing, retelling, and making connections—all essential for strong comprehension. They will also build confidence and stamina as readers.
