Help me give my students hands on vocabulary kits and a subscription to Brainpop, Jr.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Jachim's classroom raised $693
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are a bright, inquisitive and active group in a new, public Montessori program in the Detroit Public School Community District. They are excited about many things, from watching and documenting Monarch caterpillars transform into butterflies, to building structures and compound words and skip counting to 1000 with the aid of the Montessori bead cabinet. They love to draw and are excited about learning to read. We are working hard and very excited to be in person.
My Project
My students are eager readers. However, our standardized testing shows that many are below grade level in their vocabulary knowledge.
Building vocabulary is essential for developing strong readers.
This project is designed to give additional resources to my students for strengthening their vocabulary. The hands-on vocabulary kits will allow students to work with specific words, to practice concepts like synonyms and antonyms, to build compound words, to learn prefixes, suffixes and roots and to try out strategies for determining unknown words based on context. And, shhh, don't tell my students that some of these vocabulary games are educational!
The Brainpop, Jr subscription will be used to introduce students to technical vocabulary across many subjects with short, precise and fun animated videos featuring over 200 elementary topics.
