My students need 34 new books for the classroom library geared towards teenage boys.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Hughes's classroom raised $538
This project is fully funded
Together we are building a classroom of readers, dreamers, and critical thinkers.
I teach 8th grade at a charter middle school in the inner city dedicated to preparing students to enter the best high schools and colleges.
Did you know you can raise your reading level by simply reading 45 minutes a day? At our school the majority of our students enter the sixth grade 3 or more years below reading level. By the eighth grade our goal is to have our students reading at or above grade level. Our students face many challenges living in poverty and often with difficult family situations. However, they love to read! We currently have a strong DEAR (drop everything and read) program where our students are reading 30 minutes every night. The problem? A lot of our boys are becoming disengaged with the types of books we are offering.
I am requesting 34 different books to add to our classroom library to help engage my boys in reading and make them lifelong readers. A lot of my boys have expressed interest in reading science fiction, fantasy, adventure, and sports books. However we just don't have those kind of titles available to us. By receiving these books my gentlemen will enjoy reading and get excited to pick out a book in the library.
Your donation will help my students meet our end of the year goal by reading 20 books by June and growing our reading level by 2 years. More importantly, your gift will inspire thought, passion, and hopefully a life-long love of reading!
