My Students
The students at our school thrive to learn. We are a New York State Title I school, which means a majority of the students that attend come from a poverty-stricken family. The parents of our students want the very best for their children but look for the support and guidance of our school. Unfortunately, many of the parents work two or more jobs and therefore, there is minimal parent involvement.
I want to support the students' eagerness to learn and I am writing this proposal to enhance and grow our Maker Space.
Students learn through engagement, exploration and hands-on discovery. Many of the materials like masking tape, foil and popsicle sticks that are used are consumable and therefore, must be replaced often throughout the school year. Students having this unique opportunity to support their education, enables them to grow and learn through discovery and imagination.
Our Maker Space provides a unique opportunity for students to learn. Our Maker Space is a unique place in which students with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, and can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment and knowledge.
My Project
Our school has developed an extensive science program. We offer S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics through Arts and Reading (Literature)), Robotics and Lego Robotics. Within these programs are our Horticultural Program and our Maker Space Program. This year our Maker Space has been very successful. Students have had the opportunity to design, build, explore and invent through hands-on exploration and discovery. The supplies listed will help ensure that our Maker Space will continue to grow and be present for next year's thinkers, builders, scientists and explorers. I trying to teach my students that it is important to know how something works, but it is even more important to know why something works. Through the support of the Maker Space, I can support this learning belief and focus and help create life-long learners towards tomorrow's future.
