My Students

Do you know the feeling you get when you have created something great? Maybe you have painted artwork, chipped away at a sculpture, or written a symphony? Orff Instruments give music students what a blank piece of canvas and paint gives to art students; the ability to create a masterpiece.

My students are the businessmen, politicians, scientists, doctors and artists of the future.

This is what I see given their hard work ethic and strong desire to succeed. Many of my students face the challenges of a very difficult life, much more difficult than I and many of my peers faced as children. But they stay strong and true in what they believe and what they work for. Many of my students live below poverty, many are the primary care takers of younger siblings and many don't know where the next meal is coming from if it isn't given at school. Yet they blossom and shine brighter than you would ever imagine. They take great care and responsibility for what little they have in the classrooms because quite often it is all they have. We have been graciously using the minimal instruments we have and would be ecstatic to have the opportunity to further develop ourselves with Orff Instruments.

My Project

Orff keyboard instruments, like these glockenspiels, are the basis for the Orff Musical Pedagogy. Students will learn the basics of how to play instruments; how to grip mallets, and how to produce tone on percussion keyboard instruments. In the early stages, these instruments are used to create simple accompaniments to help the class sing various songs. In the intermediate stages, students will learn the notes of the keyboard as well as how these notes are notated on the musical staff. At the advanced levels, students will play and create full Orff Arrangements of various folk songs, or even songs that they've written themselves. One potential project I'm really looking forward to is using an Orff Ensemble to accompany the reading of Dr. Seuss books to perform during Read Across America Day.

Please help give the gift of music to our children.

Music really does have the power to change lives for the better, I know this to be true because it happened to me. Music can give meaning to children's lives, music can keep students off the streets, music can move others to do bigger and better things. Please help our kids, invest in them now and they'll pay off more than any other investment you can make. Thank you.
