This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our diverse campus, our students are a wide range in race, culture, socioeconomic status, and interests. Our campus serves approximately 635 students, grades 7th through 8th and between the ages of 12 to 14. Ethnically, our students are approximately 87% minorities, with 45% being Latino, 26% African American, and 13% Asian and Pacific Islander. Twenty five percent of our students are currently English language learners.

Our music students are energetic, enthusiastic, and excited about learning through music.

Our music program is one of the highlights in extracurricular activities at our site, and we have high engagement with our students.

My Project

Recently our site had something awful happen. Our music room was broken into and expensive musical instruments were taken. While we are managing with the loss, these items taken were the heartbeat of our music and have limited the range of instruments that my students could learn from. In the hopes of making their experience the most, we need to find replacements. The portable grand piano we are hoping to get will be a partial rebuild to what was taken, but an overall improvement to our music program.

To experience a breadth of music is to find the tone that sings to your soul.

My students are deserving individuals who could highly benefit from multiple sounds and experiences to help shape and push their love for music. We hope to make their experience a lifetime memory or career path, and we need your help to accomplish this.
