This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 22 kindergarten students are being introduced to reading materials and technology that they do not have available in their home environment.

I have 22 students who are living in a high poverty area.

They have little access to resources outside of their classroom and the school. They are beginning to meet new characters in the books we read, but need as much reinforcement to build their love for reading.

My Project

I am requesting wireless headphones, a CD/Cassette player and Flip Video Camcorder. With the camcorder, I will capture milestones to share with families. The listening center will afford my students with the ability to listen to several books. It will increase the amount of time they can spend diving into books through the use of technology. It will also allow them the ability to listen to different voices, expressions and increase their vocabulary which provides a foundation for their future. This will motivate a desire to read and explore books as they listen and follow along. It will also provide the awareness and exposure to the concept of print which in turn will develop their comprehension skills. A donation to this project will put us one step closer to getting hands-on material into the hands of my students. It will enable them the opportunity for something that they otherwise do not have access to and the ability to use technology which will affect their entire future.

Reading is crucial.

The enjoyment they experience with reading is even more important. Opportunities to listen to books each day will ignite a passion for reading that will last a lifetime.
