Building Tech Skills Engaging in Robotics

Help me give my students the opportunity to build, program, practice, and compete with other schools in competitions; where they test what they've practiced and learned through the First Lego League Spike Prime Robotics Program.

My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration to continue coaching an after school robotics program to extend their interests and curriculum beyond the school day.

My Project

Our goal is to raise funds for each student on our 2 teams middle school and elementary to have a Lego Spike Prime kit. We are limited with engaging every student because we only have 1 kit and 20 students.

Every student on the team should receive hands-on training with building, programming, and completing tasks however that's impossible with having only one Lego Spike Prime Kit.

The Lego First curriculum is developed using a relevant and real world project based learning approach. Students gain knowledge and skills by working towards goals through the investigation of solutions and engagement in a complex question or problem to solve. The content meets (S.T.E.M.) Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics learning objectives.

During competition students have to present a research project conducted at their school to a panel of judges. This is another good reason why we need more robots for more hands-on learning for each student. During their presentations to the judges, the students will be asked a series of questions by the judges in regards to the building, programming, and team work involved with the Lego robot. Any student on the team at random will be selected to answer the questions.

More students can take home the robot kits and be used during a virtual lesson if schools close due to COVID-19 or the weather.
