Help me give my students the consumable materials they need to build their design solutions in our Maker Space for Project Lead the Way's Computer Science for Innovators and Makers Course.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our middle school is a large urban school with over 700 students, 65% of whom receive free or reduced-price meals. Our school is ethnically and socio-economically diverse and has a large population of English Language Learners.
Our PLTW Computer Science for Innovators and Makers course needs Maker Space materials so that students can build prototypes for their design solutions.
This project will give students the classroom materials they need create and build their design solutions. Through these activities, students develop and use computational thinking skills to problem-solve, build, and program solutions to real-life problems.
My Project
Our students need materials to build the physical computing solutions they have designed in Project Lead the Way's Computer Science for Innovators and Makers course. This is a hands-on class where students construct, code, and wire prototypes for a solution to a problem.
Students choose a problem to solve and work with a team to sketch, design, build, code and wire their solution using cardboard, tape, glue, felt, foam, LEDs, servos, and Micro:Bit microprocessors.
These materials will allow students to bring their design solutions to life and to construct, test, and evaluate their design ideas, giving them a thorough introduction to both the engineering design process and physical computing.
