This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom offers students their first learning experiences in a formal setting. Learning centers provide opportunities to work in groups and explore learning environments. Centers focus on building fine motor skills within all content areas like math and language arts.

My students face many challenges and do not have the same experiences of other more affluent families.

Most students are English Language Learners. They are also faced with poverty and the lack of background knowledge. These students are excited about exploring their surroundings. They come to school every day wanting to experience new things. Puzzles and manipulatives are the kind of activities they gravitate toward. We are a Title I school that promotes success for all students.

My Project

My students need floor puzzles, writing mats, magnetic building kits, sorting activities, tweezer games, and a carpet for our library to create engaging learning centers. Most of my students are English Language Learners and most come from low income households. They need hands-on, visual experiences to enhance their learning. Being able to have many opportunities to build, move, draw, configure, and/or manipulate objects will build their fine motor skills. The new Common Core Standards have a heavy emphasis on writing with our early learners. Students need to be able to express themselves by writing and/or drawing. Fine motor skills are essential to their success.

Poverty and/or lack of home experiences should not define success!

Help my students build their future educational success. If my students have many opportunities to build their muscles strong, then my students will become successful writers and will be prepared for their future educational endeavors.
