Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten is such a special time for children, so I strive to ensure that my students leave kindergarten as life long learners. The majority of the students in my school come from low-income/high poverty households and face many challenges on a daily basis. I aim to create a classroom environment where my students feel safe and are encouraged to grow and learn.

My students are creative, energetic, and they love learning!

They are persistent with their learning and will always keep me busy coming up with new and interesting ways to challenge them. It is imperative for my students to feel successful in their academics and school environment. I believe that by creating a classroom that celebrates respect and rapport between everyone, students will feel more inclined to want to be positive contributors to the classroom and school community, and eventually their own community.

My Project

Currently my students love reading, but we are limited on our books in our library. My students end up reading the same books over and over, and now are looking to branch out of their comfort zone. Reading a collection of books from great authors, such as Dr. Seuss, Leo Lionni, and Frank Asch, is a great way for children to read new books that they may not have been familiar with before. In Kindergarten, fostering a love of reading is a main priority. Adding high interest books to our classroom library will help engage students to develop their love of reading, and build a foundation to develop life long learners.
