Building Strong Minds One Emotion at a Time

My students need a place they can go and access a variety of activities to address their social, emotional and behavioral needs.

My Students

My students vary throughout the school year. As the school social worker, I have the opportunity to work with every student and their families from Pre-K through 5th grade. I also work with students with disabilities and receive support through 504 plans and special education services.

My students are resilient to the many challenges they face in their lives; unsafe and community violence, death and incarceration of loved ones, homelessness, and mental illness.

My students demonstrate difficulty with adjusting to a variety of situations that can create anxiety in the school setting. My students struggle with managing their feelings/emotions; which can impact their ability to get along with others. My students might struggle with sensory issues. This can include lots of noise, movement, and touch. My students struggle with remaining still, on task and focused.

My Project

These materials are items that can be used not only in the clinical office but also in the classroom. These materials will be utilized to assist children in developing or improving their abilities to manage their feelings and behaviors. Students will be able to remain on task/focused longer; which will assist with increasing reading and math scores. It will also reduce how often a student is out of class or suspended.

My students are resilient and can overcome any emotional, social or behavioral challenge!

Providing a place that students feel safe to manage their everyday feelings will enable them to face those challenges in the classroom.
