Building Strong Mind Body Dancers!!

Help me give my students conditioning equipment to develop their cross training with dance.

My Students

I teach a diverse population of students in a school servicing 1,900 middle school students. Many of my students are English language learners and new to the study of dance in an educational setting. As dancers, they are eager to learn various technique and movement skills as well as creating choreographing and working together to solve problems through the creative process. They are also intrigued by dance history and the connections they discover between themselves and the diverse world of dance and culture!

My Project

As dance students, movement based props help my students not only develop strength and mobility but also help understand proprioception and the movements our bodies are capable of creating. These pilates.style balls will add to conditioning work I would like to build upon with my dance students, both during the day and within after school programming.

Adding additional conditioning elements into our program will assist students in making more mind body connections as dancers.

Students eventually are able to take on independence with the use of these tools and how it can assist their warming up as well as encourage a life long practice and means for growth whether this be through dance or another movement practice!
