My Students

I have the best job in the world! I get the opportunity of teaching in a therapeutic setting that is also the most restrictive environment within the second largest district in our state. Students are referred to us through a process based on behavioral concerns. Our students are so resilient and amaze me each and every day. The majority have endured severe trauma that has impacted their ability to utilize coping strategies and emotion regulation to be a productive member of their community.

Relationships are fundamental in exposing and unleashing our students potential.

Majority, if not all, our students have not participated in an organized team sport. Furthermore, our students have struggled to experience success and a sense of pride when achieving goals while being healthy. We serve 93% of our students free or reduced meals.

My Project

Two years ago our specialty school started its first ever sports team. Having a cross country running program has exposed students to all the mental, physical, and social health that group running provides. To enhance our current program we are asking for help to gain materials that support our students in competing at their highest potential. Having water bottles and specific training equipment will create a training program that students can build on strength and endurance. It will also provide our students with the same opportunities their peers receive at mainstream schools. Our families don't have extra money that would allow their student to purchase things like a water bottle or backpack.
