My Project

Help my students explore strategy, creativity, and cultural appreciation through a unique project combining the Warhammer 40k tabletop game with the rich traditions of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

The Project:

This project will use the Warhammer 40k tabletop game as a platform to teach strategic thinking, collaboration, and design while tying in the themes of the Chinese Lunar New Year to foster cultural understanding and creativity. Here’s how:

Building and Painting Models: Students will assemble and paint Warhammer 40k miniatures, developing fine motor skills and artistic techniques. To connect with the Lunar New Year, students will design their miniatures with inspirations from traditional Chinese art and symbolism, incorporating elements like dragons, lanterns, and the zodiac animal of the year.

Storytelling and Lore Creation: Students will create custom narratives for their Warhammer factions, drawing parallels between the heroic and mythical stories in Warhammer lore and the legendary tales of the Lunar New Year, such as the story of Nian.

Tabletop Strategy and Gameplay: Using the miniatures, students will engage in Warhammer 40k battles, which teach problem-solving, planning, and sportsmanship. We will incorporate Lunar New Year themes into the game scenarios, such as protecting a festive village or overcoming obstacles inspired by the traditions of the celebration.

Cultural Exploration and Reflection: Students will research and present on various aspects of the Lunar New Year, from its history to its customs, and connect these traditions to the themes of unity and community found in the Warhammer universe.

The Impact:

This project will provide my students with a unique and memorable learning experience that blends strategy, creativity, and cultural appreciation. They will walk away with a greater understanding of how games can teach complex skills and how cultural traditions can inspire art and storytelling.
