This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a STEAM teacher in a K-8 school, I make every effort to expose my students to innovation, creativity and learning. My students love to build and create. LEGOs will embellish their creativity and story creation abilities to be leaders of innovation. Coding, design, and engineering are some of the fastest growing jobs and my students are ready to start creating! We are in the process of creating a STEAM led K-2 classroom where students will not only learn creativity, but also coding, innovation and engineering.
My Project
STEAM with LEGO is perfect for introducing STEM to K-2 students. LEGOs will increase my students' creative thinking skills. They will learn Math, Coding, Engineering skills as I provide challenges for them to accomplish using PBL, creativity and innovation. My students will be required to work in small groups increasing their social skills & abilities to work together. It will make learning meaningful for them as they accomplish these project based learning challenges together and innovate their creations. The use of LEGO building is only the first step. Coding is one of the fastest growing learning and careers. With building with LEGO, my students will learn how to not only code, but build on that understanding and make the connections with programing and engineering. This will create lessons that correlate to educational standards in physical sciences, life sciences, earth and space sciences, and engineering.
