My Students

I have the privilege of teaching wonderful and energetic third graders. They love to move and most of the time hate sitting in one spot for too long. As most teachers do, I am constantly trying to create an environment that is both engaging for students and fun to be in.

My Project

I am wanting to incorporate more STEM in my classroom. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I am wanting to replace the mundane morning work with interactive bins that my students can pick each morning. I am also wanting to use these materials for students when they finish early with a task. Lastly, I am also wanting to make my math lessons hands on for my learners by including materials for manipulatives. The materials needed for these bins and manipulatives are what is included in this project.

These materials will make a difference for my learners because in my three years of teaching, I have found that the more hands on you can make a lesson, the more engaged students will be.

It also helps students tremendously to have a manipulative to help them understand different math concepts. For example, one thing we learn in third grade is elapsed time. Elapsed time is incredibly difficult to teach and understand and my hope is by having something they can use in front of them, it will make learning easier and more accessible to everyone.

STEM Bins encourage students to create, invent, and solve problems using real-world challenges. These materials will challenge students to think creatively, inventively, and imaginatively. Align to NGSS and state standards for science and engineering.
