This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a school social worker, I focus on topics of social emotional learning and work on skill building with my students. My students have been working so hard this year to strengthen their social skills and build emotion regulation strategies. Some topics we have discussed include bullying, positive decision-making, coping strategies, and empathy. Many of my students have disabilities and benefit from continued practice of skills, which is why these materials can play an important role in their learning.

With these new social emotional learning books and games, my students will be able to discuss important topics and practice skills they learn through reading books and engaging in therapeutic games.

My goals for this project is to provide my students with more opportunities to learn. They have made great progress so far, but benefit from activities that can increase their engagement, such as these books and therapeutic games. I plan to include these activities as a part of whole group lessons to introduce topics to classrooms, but also use them within individual sessions with my students. All of these books and activities have been intentionally chosen to address specific SEL goals for my students. I look forward to expanding the resources I can use to support my students' social emotional growth.
