My students need materials such as a play kitchen, LEGOs, and puzzles that can be used during self-selected centers that help reinforce the curriculum and also help build their social skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Since I teach at a Title I school, for many of my students, this is the only chance that they have to be exposed to books and any academic materials.
Many of the students within the school are English Language Learners.
Because of this, it is important to provide many different ways for the students to learn the material being presented. Many of the projects that I will be posting will help me reach this goal.
My Project
My students need games and activities that focus on the alphabet, letter recognition, and writing, as well as math manipulatives to explore with at Learning Center time. Our students will use these materials to explore their ability through building, drawing, counting, making letters and sounds, and then words! These activities will be used during Learning Center times throughout the day as we read and write while learning together. They will be able to use these manipulatives during our whole group and small group time, learning letters and sounds as they make words, numbers, and sets as we explore counting skills.
These materials will also be used during self selected centers.
This will help enforce literacy and math concepts, but also help build their social skills. I am currently in an inclusion classroom, which means that I have students who receive special education services. Many of these students will benefit from the hands on learning that can be achieved through using the puzzles, wikki sticks, and the shape bean bags. Some of this students also receive OT and can benefit from having to manipulate the puzzles. Many of my students also need help with building their social skills. Things such as the kitchen set and the Lego's will help teach these students how to take turns and build their social vocabulary.
This will change our students' lives for the better because they will love school and feel success at an early age --- having fun while learning!
