Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Students love to build. By providing these K'Nex kits for the class, we can enable them to take the knowledge that they learn in the classroom and apply it to building projects, then relate it to the real world.

In the fall the Lowell, MA Historical Society visited our school. She brought the K'Nex kits with her to enhance her lesson of simple machines. The students were completely engaged with the lesson and didn't want it to end. By having these materials in my classroom, the students would have more time to build, identify and troubleshoot there simple machines.

Unfortunately, the budget will not pay for extra materials such as these. I was tempted to purchase one kit myself, but it would not be enough for the class to use. By obtaining 2 of each of the kits, every student will have the opportunity to experience the building process of each of the simple machines. This was a unit that they really enjoyed and through your generosity you will enable the students to take it to another level. They take pride in there creations and I welcome the opportunity to challenge the students in a way that will not happen outside the walls of our classroom.

Through you generous donations, you will allow my students to experience things that they do not even have at home. Many students don't have pencils for class, so I can't expect them to have material to build simple machines or just build anything at home. This opportunity may change the life of a student and inspire them to choose a career in science.
