Building Self-Esteem Through Books!

Help me give my students culturally relevant text that promotes self-image and social and emotional awareness. These books will also promote diversity and help the students discuss their own feelings and emotions.

My Project

Why do I have the feeling that reading books are becoming extinct? My students are in need of updated books that they can read that are also culturally relevant. The books we currently have are so old and outdated that my students hardly ever find them exciting. The goal of this project is for me to be able to teach a social and emotional reading lesson on self-image. My students will use these books to find relating information that will help build their self-esteem. My students will also use these books to help build their phonic skills and learn their high frequency words. Along with these books I noticed some digital resources from TPT, that targets my students social and emotional needs that they are learning to control and take pride. Young independent readers definitely have a better chance to be successful in the future.
