Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a wonderful group of students in a Title I school. Most of my students are English Language Learners and come from extremely low socioeconomic backgrounds. All of my students are receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Although their parents work a lot to make ends meet, they are still very involved in their child's education because they know that education = success.
My students are a family.
They go through the same struggles and face very similar challenges. Most of them have been together since kindergarten and will continue together until high school graduation because of the way our school's dual immersion is set up. My students are "my kids" and I want to do anything and everything I can to help them be successful.
My Project
My students are lacking science centers for second grade. They are having a very difficult time understanding science and becoming engaged in science and I know that having engaging centers will help inspire them and peak their curiosity to further want to investigate problems of their own.
Students today need critical thinking skills in order to be 21st century learners, but our classroom is lacking tools to make that a reality.
Since most of my students perform below grade level, they need as many hands on activities as possible to help them understand difficult concepts.
By having these resources in the classrooms, my students will be able to have math come to life and science become personal to them.
