Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach science at a Title 1 school where 100% of our students receive free lunches. Many of my students come from low income homes and many struggle both academically and personally.

I teach 135 students per day, and only about 40 of these students have had previous science education.

They are eager to learn, and carrying out higher level experiments and creating class projects is what keeps them motivated and wanting to learn more. These middle school students can do amazing things! Hands-on science projects like this one will provide them with the opportunity.

My Project

Our school was given 9 hands-on science modules for 7th grade students. I teach 30 to 35 students per period. While the 9 modules are fantastic learning tools, our class sizes are too big for each student to be working at a station.

These Ozobot Robot Kits, Bot Robot, and calculators will allow eight more students each period to participate in building and programing a robot.

I strive for engagement of my entire class. Along with the other modules, this robot will complete our required number of stations. These projects are what students look forward to each day. They also teach valuable STEM skills that will my students will need in high school, college, and maybe even their careers.
