Building Resilience through Calming Activities

My Project

As a teacher support staff member in a large urban school, I work with many students who face daily challenges in managing strong emotions. These feelings can significantly impact their behavior, learning, and interactions with others. To support them, I plan to use the requested resources—such as social-emotional learning (SEL) activities and sensory fidgets—to teach students about recognizing, understanding, and managing their emotions in healthy ways.

These tools will help students develop emotional awareness and self-regulation skills in a hands-on, engaging manner.

Through structured activities and guided practice, students will learn how their feelings affect themselves and those around them. The calming tools will also serve as immediate supports they can use when experiencing overwhelming emotions.

My ultimate goal is to help students build a personal toolkit of coping strategies that they can carry with them through school and into life. By fostering these foundational SEL skills now, I hope to empower them to navigate their emotional experiences with confidence, empathy, and resilience.
