My Students

Reading picture books is great, but second graders need to be challenged too!

We have a small school in a community that is mostly low-income.

The students at our school come from many different walks of life, and many are English Language Learners. My second grade class has 28 students that LOVE school and love to read. They are always eager to know more!

My Project

My bookshelf has many picture books on it. The students learn a lot about description and figurative language from these books, but they are very short. I want my students to become life-long readers, but to do that they have to learn to read for longer periods of time. With some kid-friendly chapter books, they will really be motivated to keep reading! Chapter books are a big transition for 2nd graders, the ones I have chosen are written at a level that will be easy for them to understand.
