Building Reading Skills Independently

Help me give my students foundational reading skills that they can work on independently with Hooked on Phonics, sound learning center, and LeapFrog activity book.

My Project

After the covid pandemic, teachers are experiencing the effects of learning deficits that are directly related to the pandemic. My students need basic reading tools that will allow them to attack reading deficits independently. The students I teach are resilient and ready for the challenge. This is one of the reasons I enjoy teaching middle school students with specific learning disabilities. I am able to conference with them about their current academic baselines, come up with a plan to tackle the deficit, and then give them the tools to combat the deficit, and they are game.

Students are the best team member to help combat their reading disability.

Once they are given a goal and baselines, they will work independently to improve. I am asking for reading tools that will allow students to work independently to boost their reading. Hooked on Phonics is a research base reading program that will allow students to work independently. This is important for middle schoolers that are very private about their struggle. The other materials (sound learning center, LeapFrog, and sight word cards) are hands-on activities that will reinforce decoding and word building.
