My Students
Every morning we start off the day reading a book. When you walk into my classroom, you will see students reading various science related books and articles. Alan Bennet stated, “A book is a device to ignite the imagination."
My students are motivated 7th grade Special Education students who are looking for an opportunity to learn their way.
My school is a Title I school with an increasing number of students qualifying for free or reduced rate lunch. My students are young adults who strive to be the best in all academic areas. Because of their unique ways of learning, it is essential to have a variety of teaching tools to ignite curiosity and help develop a love and passion for reading. My students are eager learners and deserve the opportunity to prepare themselves for the future by exposure to supplemental text to increase their reading and comprehension skills. If funded, you will not only be helping students increase reading and comprehension skills using are an animation found within comic books.
My Project
My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. Students in my classroom like to read about superheroes and villains. My school media center doesn’t have a large collection of books, so I would like to have books will hold their interests and keep them reading in my classroom.
Struggling readers will often pick up a comic book because the pictures and visuals are less intimidating than a typical book.
Students who read these graphic novels find reading fun and begin to read more for enjoyment! Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is perfect way to build better readers. Comic books are a gateway to better reading skills for reluctant readers. My students will love getting their hands on comic books.
