Building Readers Through Literature

Help me give my students several books listed on the suggested reading list for 4th graders.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Conrad's classroom raised $161

My Project

I am requesting funding to purchase several high-quality children’s literature books listed on the Florida Department of Education’s suggested book list for 4th grade. Specifically, the titles Where Was Patrick Henry on the 29th of May? by Jean Fritz, Promises to Keep: How Jackie Robinson Changed America by Sharon Robinson, and On the Wings of Heroes by Richard Peck just to name a few.

These books represent a rich cross-section of genres but mainly focus on historical narrative; designed to deepen understanding across literature, science, social studies, and historical events, in full alignment with Florida's literacy goals.

I am requesting one copy of each of these books to begin building a diverse and engaging classroom library for my 4th grade students. These titles will serve dual purposes: they will be available for independent reading by students who are ready for this level of text, and several will be used as read-alouds to support whole-class instruction. Through these read-aloud sessions, students will strengthen their reading comprehension, expand their vocabulary, and develop a deeper understanding of sentence structure and language use.
