Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Busy hands and minds learning to build words, make meaning of text, and becoming more fluent readers. This is how my classroom looks every day. However, we need new materials for them to complete these tasks.
My students are independent thinkers ready to conquer word building and reading strategies.
They have difficult levels of readiness for these tasks. Some are just learning English, others are in the process of it, while others struggle with the reading tasks. In addition, I have other students that are reading at much higher level than grade level.
My Project
With so many different needs for the students in the classroom, they need different materials to be successful. For my English language learners and struggling learners, they need many hands on materials to build words such as the magnetic letters. Many others need to improve on their fluency which will be working with the timers, word lists, and fluency cards. The students are going to use the Close Reading clips to mark evidence they are finding within the text. Additionally, the Scholastic News subscription will allow students to have more access to informational text to strengthen those skills. All of these materials will be used during small group instruction to meet the various needs and learning styles of the students.
These materials will be a much needed improvement compared to our current small group materials.
They will help the students master reading and decoding skills we are working on. They will help the students be engaged and interested in practicing fundamental skills needed to be successful throughout their schooling and life.
